Aether Run Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-09-30
Last updated: 2026-10-11

Aether Run is operated under the Mistrail Games name. This Privacy Policy explains how information is processed when you play Aether Run, use its global leaderboard, or use the Android version of the game.

New Android builds open the hosted Aether Run game in an app-owned Android WebView. Older installed builds use a Trusted Web Activity or browser tab. Both use the same hosted game, leaderboard, and related services described in this policy.

Information stored on your device

Aether Run stores certain information in browser-origin storage on your device, including game progress and personal bests, a browser-generated leaderboard identity, your chosen leaderboard nickname, the version of the Community Rules you have accepted, whether adult-managed custom leaderboard nicknames are enabled on that browser, and identifiers for leaderboard players you have locally blocked.

Blocking another player hides that player's leaderboard entry on that browser or device.

Browser or device storage may be unavailable, cleared, or removed. Clearing local storage can remove local progress, Community Rules acceptance, and the local block list. It may also cause the game to create a new leaderboard identity.

Android WebView storage is separate from the Chrome or other browser storage used by older Trusted Web Activity builds. Updating the existing Android app does not automatically move local progress, personal bests, preferences, nickname, leaderboard identity, or blocked-player list into its WebView; these may appear reset there. The older browser data is not deleted by the update. A new WebView leaderboard identity may create a separate leaderboard record. Aether Run does not offer account synchronization or an automatic transfer of that browser data. The app's separate native age and advertising-privacy preferences normally remain with the installed app during an in-place update.

Global leaderboard

Aether Run includes an optional global leaderboard.

When the leaderboard is used, requests send a browser-generated identity and run-verification information to Aether Run's server. The server hashes the browser-generated identity before using it as the persistent leaderboard player identifier.

Leaderboard responses may contain this pseudonymous hashed identifier so the game can distinguish leaderboard entries, apply deterministic ordering when required, and recognize your own leaderboard row. The identifier is not displayed as part of the visible leaderboard.

When you submit a result, the leaderboard may store a nickname, score, distance, and pseudonymous leaderboard identifier. Your nickname, ranking, score, and distance may be visible publicly to other Aether Run players. When custom public nicknames are not enabled, Aether Run can use a deterministic automatically generated nickname that does not require personal information.

Free-form custom public nicknames are an adult-managed feature. The leaderboard's adult-control date of birth is checked locally only to decide whether custom nicknames may be enabled; the full date of birth is not stored or transmitted to Aether Run. The browser stores only whether custom nickname access is enabled.

Do not include your real name, school, contact information, passwords, account details, home address, or other private information in your leaderboard nickname.

Leaderboard storage

Aether Run uses Upstash to provide server-side storage for the global leaderboard. Leaderboard records may remain stored across server restarts and periods of inactivity.

Connection, verification, or storage failures can prevent a submitted result from being ranked, but they do not prevent ordinary Aether Run gameplay.

Upstash acts as a service provider used to operate Aether Run's leaderboard infrastructure.

Community moderation and reports

Players can report a public leaderboard entry for a Community Rules violation using one of the fixed reporting reasons provided by the game.

A moderation report may contain the reporter's pseudonymous hashed leaderboard identifier, the reported player's pseudonymous identifier, the selected moderation reason, the reported nickname, the reported score, and the reported distance.

Reports do not contain player-written free-text messages. Moderation reports are used to review possible violations of the Aether Run Community Rules.

If a moderator removes a leaderboard entry, the reported player's pseudonymous identifier may be retained in a moderation suppression list. This allows Aether Run to prevent the same anonymous leaderboard identity from immediately republishing an entry while the moderation restriction remains in effect.

The suppression record does not retain the removed nickname, score, or distance.

Abuse prevention and rate limiting

Aether Run processes limited technical information to protect its leaderboard and server endpoints against spam, abuse, and excessive automated requests.

Leaderboard requests may temporarily process the network address supplied to the server by Vercel, such as an IP address. Aether Run's leaderboard code combines that address with a server-side secret and hashes the result before using it as part of a short-lived rate-limit key.

The raw network address is not written to Aether Run's Upstash leaderboard store by this code. Temporary rate-limit records expire automatically.

Hosting

Aether Run is hosted using Vercel.

This also applies to the Android version. The Android application loads the hosted Aether Run website in an app-owned WebView in new builds, or through a browser in older Trusted Web Activity builds, rather than containing a separate native copy of the complete game.

Vercel therefore processes requests necessary to deliver the game, serve game assets and pages, operate Aether Run server routes, and support related hosting functionality.

Vercel acts as a service provider used to host and deliver Aether Run.

Android WebView and older Trusted Web Activity builds

New Android builds use Android System WebView inside the Aether Run app to display the hosted game. The app limits game navigation and native commands to the approved game origin; deliberate links to external HTTPS pages or the listed support email can open another app.

Older installed builds use Google Android Browser Helper to open a Trusted Web Activity or, where appropriate, a Custom Tab provided by a compatible browser. Their game URL and local website storage are handled by that browser. Aether Run does not enable Android Browser Helper's optional location-delegation or Google Play Billing functionality.

Optional rewarded advertising on Android

The Android version of Aether Run may offer an optional rewarded advertisement after a run ends. A player can choose to watch the advertisement to continue that run once. Watching an advertisement is not required to start a new run or use ordinary gameplay.

Before the Android app requests an optional rewarded advertisement or opens advertising privacy settings, it uses a neutral date-of-birth screen to apply age-appropriate advertising and privacy treatment. The entered date is used in memory to determine an age category; Aether Run does not store or transmit the full date of birth. The app stores only a derived local age category, a policy-version number, and the time that classification was recorded so younger users can be asked again periodically.

For users classified as under 13, Aether Run applies Google Mobile Ads CHILD treatment with a G-rated ad-content limit, and the optional rewarded-ad feature is unavailable. Android 1.1.0 (version code 3) uses TEEN treatment for ages 13–17, a G-rated ad-content limit, and Google's under-age-of-consent privacy classification.

An advertising-safety correction prepared for the next Android release changes ages 13–17 to CHILD treatment while retaining the G-rated ad-content limit and the under-age-of-consent privacy classification. This correction takes effect only after the corrected app build is installed; updating this hosted policy does not change advertising treatment in an installed 1.1.0 build. Adult users retain UNSPECIFIED treatment with a PG-rated ad-content limit. Eligible minors and adults can receive rewarded ads only when Google's current privacy eligibility permits requests. The local age classification can be refreshed through the app's privacy settings.

The corrected Android build also stores a local consent-context compatibility record to ensure cached privacy eligibility is reused only for the compatible age and advertising-privacy policy context. It contains no full date of birth and does not itself grant permission to request ads.

Aether Run uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK to provide rewarded advertisements and the Google User Messaging Platform to present advertising privacy choices when required. Depending on your region, device settings, consent choices, and Google's service configuration, Google may process information such as advertising or device identifiers, IP or network information, app and advertisement interactions, and diagnostic information in order to provide, measure, protect, and personalize advertising where permitted.

Mistrail Games uses the rewarded-ad completion signal only to grant the continuation the player requested. Before an ad is shown, Aether Run's server issues an opaque random reward-request identifier tied to the player's pseudonymous leaderboard identity and that specific ranked run. That opaque request identifier may be provided to Google Mobile Ads as server-side-verification custom data; the browser's reusable leaderboard authentication token is not provided to Google for this purpose. Aether Run verifies Google's signed rewarded-ad callback before marking the request as earned.

If a player uses the optional rewarded continuation, that continuation remains part of the same run. The global leaderboard result is finalized when the continued run finally ends, so distance and score earned after the rewarded continuation may be included in that run's final leaderboard result.

The Android app provides an Privacy and cookie settings entry point when advertising privacy options are available or need to be revisited. More information about how Google uses information from apps that use its services is available in Google's privacy documentation.

Web analytics

Aether Run uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand general usage of the game.

Vercel describes Web Analytics as privacy-focused and cookie-free. The service can provide aggregated information such as page views, referring pages or websites, broad geographic information, device type, operating system, and browser information.

Vercel states that its Web Analytics service does not use persistent identifiers to track an individual across different websites or applications and that the visitor-session identifier used by the service is discarded after 24 hours.

This analytics information is used to understand how Aether Run is being used and to help improve the game.

Service providers

Mistrail Games uses third-party service providers to operate Aether Run. These currently include Vercel for hosting, server infrastructure, and Web Analytics, Upstash for persistent leaderboard and temporary reward-verification storage, and Google Mobile Ads / User Messaging Platform for the optional Android rewarded-ad and advertising-privacy flows.

These providers may process information as necessary to provide their services to Mistrail Games and may maintain their own technical logs, backups, and operational records according to their service configurations and policies.

Data retention

Local game data

Information stored locally in browser-origin storage generally remains until it is removed by the browser, device storage management, the game, or the player.

Clearing local game data does not automatically delete information that has already been submitted to the global leaderboard.

Leaderboard records

Active leaderboard best-score records are retained until they are removed by Mistrail Games, including when a valid deletion request is completed.

Temporary security records

Temporary rate-limit information, used-run verification receipts, moderation-report deduplication records, and the short-lived deletion-safety marker expire automatically and are not retained as permanent leaderboard records. The deletion-safety marker is based on the deleted pseudonymous leaderboard identifier and remains for slightly more than 24 hours so an already-open run cannot immediately recreate the deleted active row.

Reward verification records

For the optional Android rewarded continuation, an unverified pending request is retained for up to one hour. After verification, application, or cancellation, the pseudonymous request/run record may remain for up to 24 hours so retries can return a consistent result without granting a second continuation. A pseudonymous Google AdMob transaction identifier used to reject replay may remain for up to 30 days. These records are used for reward verification, retry safety, and abuse prevention and are not displayed on the public leaderboard.

Moderation reports

Moderation reports remain in the active moderation queue for up to 90 days. The moderation queue is also limited to the 1,000 most recent reports. Deleting an active leaderboard record does not automatically delete an existing moderation report, which may continue to contain the pseudonymous identifiers and the nickname, score, and distance snapshot recorded when the report was created until that report expires or is removed during moderation handling.

Moderation suppression records

A pseudonymous moderation-suppression identifier may be retained for as long as the corresponding moderation restriction remains in effect. The suppression record does not contain the removed nickname, score, or distance.

Provider backups and logs

Upstash may maintain provider-managed snapshots or backups as part of its storage service.

Deleting an active Aether Run leaderboard record removes it from the active leaderboard storage used by the game. Provider-managed backup copies may remain for a limited period according to Upstash's service configuration and policies.

Mistrail Games does not use those backup copies for normal leaderboard display.

Vercel may separately retain technical hosting, security, or service logs according to its service settings and policies.

Deleting an Aether Run leaderboard record does not automatically delete unrelated provider-managed hosting logs or aggregated analytics records.

Requesting deletion of leaderboard information

For the deletion steps, what is deleted, and what may be retained, see Request deletion of Aether Run data.

If you are using the same browser or WebView storage where you joined the leaderboard, the deletion page provides an authenticated self-service button. It uses the secret anonymous leaderboard identity already stored there only to authenticate the same-origin deletion request; the secret token is not displayed or sent by email. A WebView cannot use the separate identity stored in Chrome for an older Trusted Web Activity. To request deletion of an older record, use the original browser's deletion page or the email option described below.

After a successful self-service deletion, the active leaderboard score/member and player record are removed. The deletion page also attempts to clear the saved Aether Run leaderboard profile in the current browser or WebView and reports if local removal could not be confirmed. Other local game progress remains unless you clear it through browser or Android app storage controls.

If the original browser or device is unavailable, you may contact mistrailgames@gmail.com. Public nickname, score, or distance information may help locate a record but does not by itself prove ownership, so Mistrail Games may request additional non-secret context and may be unable to delete a specific record when ownership cannot reasonably be verified.

Do not send passwords, private keys, authentication credentials, browser-generated authentication tokens, or other secret information by email.

Deleting the active leaderboard record does not automatically delete existing moderation reports, short-lived security and deletion-safety records, provider-managed backups or logs, aggregated analytics, or a moderation-suppression identifier that is still needed for an active moderation restriction. Their retention is described above.

Security

Information transmitted between Aether Run and its configured server endpoints is protected using HTTPS/TLS.

Leaderboard storage credentials, signing secrets, and other server-side credentials are kept on the server and are not included in the Android wrapper.

Aether Run also uses pseudonymous identifiers, run verification, and rate limiting as part of its efforts to protect the leaderboard from misuse.

No internet service or storage system can guarantee absolute security, but Mistrail Games takes reasonable technical measures appropriate to the current Aether Run implementation to protect the information it processes.

Do not send passwords, private keys, authentication tokens, or other secret information through public support messages or leaderboard nicknames.

Community Rules

Public leaderboard nicknames and leaderboard participation are also subject to the Aether Run Community Rules & User Terms.
